About Richard Aceves

The body doesn't lie.

Richard Aceves is a movement coach and nervous-system educator who reads bodies for a living — where tension is displaced, what's being protected, and why the usual fixes haven't held. Root cause over quick relief.

He works with chronic pain clients, athletes, high performers, and coaches — through 1:1 assessment first, then coaching, mentoring, and the wider Moved ecosystem.

What makes this different

Symptoms are rarely the root cause.

The tight hip, the bad shoulder, the plateau that won't budge — most people treat the spot that hurts. Richard treats it as a clue. The real issue is usually displaced tension: the body protecting something by bracing somewhere else entirely. Find where the tension actually is, and the symptom stops being a mystery.

Why this work exists

The accident changed the question.

“What if the body is not a machine to repair, but a system to understand?”

At 18, descending a 5,000-meter mountain, a rockslide hit Richard and left him stranded on the mountainside for twelve hours before rescue. His hip had shattered into more than thirty pieces. Nearly five months in bed followed, along with a prognosis built around limitation: lifelong pain medication, and a hip replacement by his mid-30s.

He refused to let that prognosis become his identity. He taught himself to walk again outside standard physiotherapy — rebuilding through strength training, breath, and the daily experience of learning to trust his body again. Four months later, he was deadlifting 200 kilograms.

That search became a coaching practice. Richard built CrossFit No Boundaries, spent years on the gym floor, and later traveled the world teaching seminars. Across thousands of individual assessments, the same truth kept returning: a person’s movement cannot be separated from how they breathe, perceive, protect, and adapt.

Today, that lived understanding connects every part of the Richard Aceves ecosystem. The modalities differ. The purpose does not: help people build a more honest relationship with their body and greater capacity for change.

Philosophy

Tension Over Position

A position can look perfect and still be wrong. What matters is where the tension actually is — where it's braced, where it's missing, and what the body is doing to protect itself while it holds that shape.

Principles Over Methodology

Richard doesn't run one method on every body. He runs the same principles — read the tension, find what's being protected, retrain the pattern — and lets the method change to fit the person in front of him.

Live, not theoretical

How he reads the body live.

An assessment with Richard isn't a form or a questionnaire. It's watching you move — 3 to 5 exercises, live — and reading what changes when load, breath, and fatigue enter the picture. Most clients say some version of the same thing afterward: he saw something nobody else caught.

That's pattern recognition built from years of reps, not a script. He's looking for torque chains, compensation, and where the nervous system is still bracing — the afferent signals telling the body it isn't safe to let go yet.

If you've tried the usual fixes and still feel stuck, start with the right first step.

Who he works with

Assessment works for a few specific kinds of stuck.

Pain that keeps coming back

Even after treatment, stretching, or therapy — the same issue returns.

Athletes and active adults

Stuck in recurring compensation patterns that show up under load.

Feeling off or restricted

You want a clearer path forward, not another generic program.

A whole-human philosophy

How Richard sees the human system.

These principles shape the coaching, education, breathwork, retreats, and tools. They are not separate techniques. They are one way of seeing.

01

The body is not a collection of parts.

Strength, breath, emotion, attention, and behavior constantly shape one another. Lasting change starts by seeing the person as a connected system.

02

Pain is information, not identity.

Pain can reveal protection, compensation, and a loss of trust in movement. It is something to listen to and investigate — not a label that defines what comes next.

03

Breath changes access.

Breath influences tension, state, and the nervous system. When breathing changes, people often gain access to movement, sensation, and choices that force alone could not create.

04

Regulation shapes behavior.

A body that feels threatened organizes differently from one that feels safe. Coaching must account for the state a person is in, not only the position they can achieve.

05

Movement is a doorway.

Movement can build more than capacity. Used with awareness and intention, it becomes a way to practice resilience, expression, adaptation, and a different relationship with yourself.

06

Real coaching goes beyond mechanics.

Biomechanics matter, but they are not the whole human. Good coaching connects what the body does with what the person perceives, protects, believes, and is ready to change.
